Brief description of eventsThe 11.30 a.m. Manchester to Euston express running at about 75 miles per hour collided with a heavy road transporter carrying a 120-ton transformer over the automatic half-barrier crossing. Neither the driver or the police escort had telephoned the signalman to warn of the slow moving vehicle.
